| The fibres are sorted by hand into a fibre length diagram and the Maximum, Minimum and Median (mm) fibre lengths are recorded | The fibres are pulled out onto a velvet or cashmere covered board, which holds them in place. A skilled and practiced operator can align the fibres in a thin web ranking them from the longest to the shortest. The maximum (longest) and minimum (shortest) length can then be measured. Half way between the maximum and the minimum lies the median. It may or may not be close to the mean. |
